French Drains and Downspouts

As Waterproofing contractors, we often hear the same things over and over again. Well, my neighbor or a friend told me that if I add a French drain or add an extension on my downspout, my problem will be solved.

Let’s be honest, we all do this, including me. Fortunately, most of us also seek answers from true professionals and then make up our minds before spending our hard-earned money. The truth is that French drains or adding downspouts will NOT solve your leaking basement.

Water getting into your foundation walls is not surface water!!!!! When it rains, especially heavy rains, water penetrates deep into the ground. This water is BELOW the surface, and at or below your foundation walls. So, how will a surface drain help you when most of the water is below that drain?
